GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Gabbro refers to a large group of dark, often phaneritic (coarse-grained), mafic intrusive igneous rocks chemically equivalent to basalt, being its coarse-grained analogue. Gabbro is dark-colored, composed mainly of the minerals plagioclase and augite. It is the most abundant rock in the deep oceanic crust.
